Trail Life Families,
This email covers two major subjects:
- Our scheduled backpacking trip for this week— Cancelled.
- Our regular troop meeting for this week — Still on!
Little Jimmy Backpacking Trip has been cancelled...for now.
As announced at our last meeting, we were concerned about the location of Little Jimmy in relation to the recent "Bobcat Fire"
...and while its not clear if the campground has been directly destroyed—it was certainly on the line, and most importantly the entire Angels National Forest area has been closed (closure order is here ») While we considered several other comparable hikes as replacements, many others are currently (and temporarily) closed due to fires or other natural causes. (Even our Sespe Creek trailhead that we typically hike in the Spring is currently closed). Our first of the year Backpacking trip is always one that is suitable for "all experience levels", and though we are continuing to look for suitable replacements— we're going to need to cancel this trip for now. For those planning on attending this trip, we recognize that this is a disappointment.
We want to make sure our backpacking experience as a troop is safe, filled with adventure, and memorable. To ensure the safety, we always pre-scout locations and hikes to be traversed by our troop boys to ensure that while adventure is had, it can be done safely. After scouting out some new locations, we'd love to see a make-up backpacking trip be had this season— but even if not— we have one more backpacking adventure scheduled for end of season.
Regular Troop Meeting this Tuesday Night
Our troop meeting scheduled for this week is ON. Our woodlands boys will be be working on Outdoor Skills with some fun hands on activities to hone their outdoor skills, and our Navigators will be finishing their Ropework Badge work.
Looking forward to seeing you Tuesday at 6:15!
