Trail Life Families,

As you’ve likely read and noticed, we are experiencing a high wind event today in Simi Valley.  After receiving notice that the forecasted winds will likely trigger a PSPS (Public Safety Power Shutoff) at the Church property this evening, we have made the decision to cancel our troop meeting scheduled for tonight.  While wind, and even high wind events are common in Simi Valleyi, this wind event is projected to be much worse than typical. While the wind will vary throughout the city, gusts are expected to reach 50-80mph (With some areas seeing gusts up to 80-100mph).

There are widespread reports about this windstorm, like  this  one from Weather.com and another from The National Weather Service / NOAA » One important excerpt from the NOAA report is here:

THIS WILL LIKELY BE THE MOST DESTRUCTIVE WINDSTORM SEEN SINCE 2011 WINDSTORM THAT DID EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO PASADENA AND NEARBY FOOTHILLS OF THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY. ANY COMMUNITIES ALONG HIGHWAY 118 AND 210 CORRIDORS WILL BE AT HIGHEST RISK FOR COMPARABLE WIND DAMAGE.

We look forward to resuming our meeting schedule in two weeks, on January 21, 2025.  On our next troop meeting we will have our “Show and tell” for our Woodlands boys, so your Trailmen can bring an item to share for this session (can be a hobby, favorite craft or model built, or anything that your Trailman wants to show and tell about).

It’s always a bummer to cancel a troop meeting, but we'd rather be safe for a projected event like this!  Stay safe out there, and we will see you soon in two weeks!

WOODLANDS DADS

Mr Packard wanted to share this teaching calendar for our dad’s teaching in the woodlands trail program.  Though we’re cancelling tonight, we will still do our “Show and tell” for the Focus Portion next meeting so boys will be able to share their hobby item.
