How Can We Help?
See additional notes below.
In addition, when passing any wood tool to another, the blade edge should be passed pointing away from the hand (ex. non folding blades, axes). Â For our troop, the Trail man receiving the wood tool, should say "Thank you" when they have a grip on the item as an indication to the passer that they have fully received the item.
We also call the "Safety Circle" for knives the "Blood Circle."
Hey are kids allowed to bring tools(such as knives, saws, and hachets.)
This is a Navigator’s badge in question— but the same answer applies to all Trailmen (at least in our troop). A knife safety and orientation is required for all Trailmen wishing to carry or use any wood tools (pocket or fixed blade knives, saws, etc). The question is really for your local troop: but we allow all Trailmen in our troop, after completing knife-safety training (and with permission from their Dad/Mom) to carry on their person and use wood tools / knives, etc during meetings, hit the trails and campouts. Hope that helps.
