Event Details
Archery is a fun sport to learn. Whether you have never shot before or have some experience, this is a chance to improve your skills with a certified USA Archery instructor, Coach Bill Davis.
On the day of the event please arrive 10-15 minutes early to have time to pass out equipment.
The archery range is located in Tapo Canyon Park, the address is 4651 Tapo Canyon Road in Simi Valley. When entering park please drive slowly as children are frequently crossing the road from park to campground.

PARKING:
If you wish to park near the archery range gate you will need to pay the day use parking fee at the entrance of Tapo Canyon Park. When you first turn into Tapo Canyon Park you will notice a small stop sign on the right side of the road along with a collection box. That is where you pay the day use parking fee, in CASH. (Weekdays $2 ; weekend & holidays $4). The rangers will give a $75 ticket to anyone who is parked on the black top and has not paid the fee. Tapo Canyon Park is operated by Ventura County not Simi Park & Recreation.

FREE PARKING:
There is a parking lot belonging to Conejo Valley Archers and you can park in there for FREE. However, this gate will only be unlocked and open until 10 min after class starts. Below is where you find the FREE parking lot.

Make a left into the park and proceed along the main roadway to the point where the black top road turns right. At that point you will notice, to your left, a fenced in gravel lot. That lot belongs to Conejo Valley Archers and you can park in there for FREE. Park your car and proceed back to the black top. Go straight up the hill and at the top you will see the range where we will hold the class, up the steps and through the gate. If you arrive late this gate will be locked so you will need to pay the parking fee to the county at the entrance of the park.
EYE DOMINANCE:
In order to know which bow is best suited for an individual an eye dominance review needs to be given to eachparticipant. Just because someone is right-handed doesn't mean they they are right eye dominant. Many times a right-handed person is in fact left eye dominant and therefore needs a left handed bow. Coach Bill will explain this further in person.
CLASS DETAILS:
Students will be equipped with an arm guard, a finger tab, a bow, and a quiver with 3 arrows. Coach Bill will show everyone how to shoot safely and will work with each student to improve their form which improves accuracy. Once everyone is shooting reliably he will have some surprise targets and games.
A parent or guardian will need to stay for the entire session. If the troop leader will be the guardian for a minor during the archery class a Medical Liability Release Form will need to be completed as well as the Liability Release. Cell service is spotty at the range and it would make it difficult to reach you in case of an emergency.

ATTIRE:

Anyone shooting should wear close toed shoes and those with long hair should have their hair in a ponytail or similar. The bow string can grab loose hair when you shoot and pull it out, ouch. Please bring plenty of water for your child especially now that its summer. There is some shade on the range but if it is warm at your house it will likely be warmer on the range. If it is cool at your house, it will likely be cooler at the range. I always keep a jacket in the car just in case.
FOR PARENTS:

If parents who are not in the class they will need to stay away from the shooting line as it can be distracting for students while listening to Coach Bill. There is space close enough that you can still get great photos. There are picnic tables available but you may be more comfortable bringing a lawn chair.
MEDICAL RELEASE FORM:
This only needs to be completed for a child if the parent is not going to be present during the archery class.
WAIVER:

The Waiver/Release form has been attached to this email. Please print, fill out, sign and bring with you to the first class. Each person participating in the class needs a separate waiver.
