Troop,

It was great to see a lot of the trailmen and families at the Griffith Observatory this weekend.  We hope that everyone had a great time and enjoyed learning about the amazing universe that God created.  We are hoping to learn more about it in our (new) upcoming Hit the Trail this coming Saturday.

— We also wanted to remind you about our troop meeting TONIGHT!

With the recent rain we have a great opportunity to add a Hit the Trail/Family Snow Day in Mt Pinos, Frazier Park this Saturday (1/19).  Last year we had planned to do this, but the snow never came, so we didn’t go.   This coming Saturday will be the perfect time to go according to the park ranger that is stationed in the Mt Pinos area.  There is currently plenty of snow in Mt Pinos with a lot more coming early during the week, so by the time Saturday comes along, the conditions will be ideal for having a snow outing.  Please see the full details below,

Event Type: Family (This is intended for the whole family to participate in)

Meeting Place:  NewHeart
Meeting Time:  10:00am
Cost: $5 (This is for the day pass.  Purchase one at Big 5 Sporting goods or a Park Ranger office). If you have an Adventure pass for 2019, then that is your pass, you don’t need to purchase the day pass, just make sure to bring your Adventure Pass. (if you are planning on coming to Sespe Creek Campout— you'll need an adventure pass for that too!)
Activities Timeline:
  • [10:10] Start driving to Frazier Park from New Heart
  • [11:30] Stop in Frazier Park gas station for Bathroom break
  • [11:45] Start driving to Mt Pinos (we will be caravanning as we go up the mountain)
  • [12:30] Arrive in Mt. Pinos (we’ll need to look for a good spot for the troop to play and go sledding, that’s where we’ll park, which will be most likely on the side of the road)
  • [12:40] Have lunch and Hit the Snow
  • [3:00] Break/Snack/Group Shot
  • [4:30] Start getting ready for the drive back
  • [4:45] Start drive home
  • [6:00] Stop at In N Out in Santa Clarita to refuel
  • [7:00] Continue drive home
What to bring:
  • Lunch
  • Water
  • Lots of Snacks (fruit, granola bars, trail mix, hot chocolate, etc)
  • Snow clothing attire (i.e. jacket, boots, gloves, pants, hat, goggles, etc.)
  • Sled (one per person if possible)
  • Another pair of clothes for the drive back home

Important things to know:

  • For 2WD vehicles, bring snow chains for your tires as they will be required to drive up Mt Pinos!
  • AWD or 4x4 do not need snow chains
  • If you don’t have AWD or 4x4 vehicle, try to car pool with one that has one if you can, otherwise make sure to bring snow chains
  • Be prepared to not have access to a bathroom as we won’t be near one, so please take this into account when making your plans.
Here is the link to the Mt Pinos weather forecast for the rest of the week, hopefully it stays that way :).
We are looking forward to a great snow outing and we hope to see everyone there.
