Trailmen and Parents,

Hit the Trail!

(For full details and a map for this event, visit the event page: http://tlsv.org/events/civil-war-days-hit-the-trail/  )

Our first hit the trail event is this Saturday, September 4th, in Huntington Beach, CA.  The Huntington Beach Historical Society is hosting the Civil War days reenactment on both Saturday and Sunday (our official hit the trail day will be Saturday).  On Saturday, the camp opens to the public at 10AM with battles at 1:30 and 4:00 PM, and it is FREE to the public.  The event will take place at Central Park in Huntington Beach behind the library on Gothard Street between Slater Avenue and Talbert Avenue.  (The geo coordinates for the battlefield is 33.70548665655377, -118.00208665504631).

The Saturday schedule is:

  • Camp opens to the public at 10AM
  • Battlefield Concert - 11:30 - ft. The Richmond Howitzers Band
  • Grant & His Generals - Noon
  • Civil War Engineers - 12:30PM
  • First Battle at 1:30 PM
  • Living History Weapons Demonstration to follow
  • President Lincoln's Gettysburg Address - 2PM
  • Grant & the Railroad - 2:30PM
  • The 1864 Election - 3PM
  • The Grants - Ulysses & Julia at City Point - 3:30PM
  • Second Battle at 4PM
  • Lincoln's Proposed Slavery Amendment - 4:45PM
  • Twilight Concert featuring The Armory Band at 5:30PM

This is not a normal hit the trail event where we will meet at Newheart and caravan or meet in the parking lot at the event site.  Plan to meet near the battlefield at 12:30PM so you can view the Civil War Engineers then find a spot to view the battle.   During the battles and other demonstrations there will be black powder cannon and small arms firing so consider bringing hearing protection if needed.

Trailmen are encouraged to wear their uniform.  To receive credit for attending the hit the trail, find me (I will be in a reenactor uniform on this day), or check in with the senior Trail Life leader on site.

This is a great opportunity to view a living history event and battle scenarios her in Southern California.  Additional details can be found at https://www.hbhistory.org/civilwar
